Space-Making in a Market is developed through fieldwork at the Afrikaandermarkt in South Rotterdam. In this market each vendor constructs and dismantles their stall in a single day, Within this rhythm of setup and breakdown, they develop distinct spatial strategies that respond to limited space, mobility, and visibility. This publication investigates how market vendors with different culture background construct, inhabit, and adapt temporary spaces in the rigid urban frameworks. Their actions of tying, wrapping, stacking, and balancing form a vocabulary of verbs that redefines what “design” can mean outside institutional or architectural boundaries.
